Cambelt Or Chain?

Hi All.

I am sure this has been asked many times before but can anyone answer the question is my 2 year old 2.2 D-Cat diesel Rav 4 chain driven or does it have a cambelt and if it is the later at what mileage or age does it need changing please?

The 2.2 diesel from 2006 onwards has a chain driven camshaft. Quite a cost saving over the longer term compared to a belt.


Petrol 2006 onwards also has a chain.

4.1 petrol up to 2000 Belt Change every 70000 miles

4.2 petrol up to 2005 Chain

4.2 diesel up to 2005 Belt Change every 60000 miles

4.3 petrol from 2006 Chain

4.3 diesel from 2006 Chain
