Hi Need Some Buying Advice Asap

I currently own a 2008 aygo+( a/c added on ) I hav had since oct 2011

After just 6 weeks max at 17,000 miles needed new clutch ( out of warranty )but I like the car ( was a bit of getting used to after the previous Peuguot 307 1600 I wrote off dad bought the aygo mostly for lower running costs so hated the aygo at first wiv lack of even basic things like tiny boot and light in boot not a great stereo but after 6 months started to like my aygo and even tho Toyota told me I cudnt get a different stereo fitted I did went to Halfords bought a decent sony stereo they ordered a £11 surround so was totally poss to hav new stereo

I also grew to like the look and much easier Parkin and big savings on petrol money but sadly since 2012 caused nowt but problems all exactly the same massive inches of water in every footwell constant smell of damp when getting colder and inches of white mould growing all over the carpet and mats and all over the rear passenger and front seats my local Letchworth Toyota dealer and staff totally brill but my car has now been in 7 times since end 2012 all same the massive leaks been in 4 times already just this year ! I read on ur forum leaks so common Toyota extended guarantee to 5 yrs for leaks ( Toyota never told me ) now over 6 yrs old so no guarantee went in a month ago for big puddles in pass front footwell but had to pay was about £71 the part just £7 rest diagnostics just 10 days later saw puddle same in the exact same place so been in again I hav been told not covered as the issue is my door leaking which is not covered as is not one of the places Toyota is known to leak so was faced wiv a minimum £500 bill to take for off and fix or get new door I feel bit conned Toyota not taking full responsibility I've had 14,15 year old rust buckets never leaked smelt or went mouldy last time. Mould soo bad Toyota kindly replaced free my car mats gettin to point promise ....

I was faced wiv at least £500 bill do not have that money so was surprised when offerd the option of a brand new aygo I was given the option but sed I lob wud not b approve. For credit I never am as I was medically retd at 29 now 43 disabled but not enough according to dwp to use motability option I also rent and only have a mobile contract which took 6 yrs not been in debt just low rates so I was surprised when sales called to say I approved they only needed my name address and dob next day Friday 29 aug2014

I signed the order form for a new 64 aygo white x pression only extras I asked for were sat nav and touchscreen stereo nothing was really explained to me nor was I told of all the different options re the car specs and models or the finance options I paid £150 deposit they valued my own car at £2500 part exchange went away.

Happy monthly payments were £144 ish but over the next two days I was looking thru aygo brochure and online and prices specs etc and I saw the orange x cite model special edition I fort wud b masses more money but in fact just £200 more than x pression and I fell in love with it I looked at form I signed and I was being charged extra £250 for white there was only 2 other colour options but I had also been charged between £600-795 for an xtra convenience pack when signing I assumed this was the sat nav and touchscreen stereo I wants assumed this as the sat nav and touchscreen I wanted but in fact was for keyless entry lights come on auto at dusk auto a/c these were options never discussed wiv me and I never wod want anyway some people love these but I've used keys for years can switch my own lights and a/c on so I emailed my salesperson on Sunday less than 48 hrs after signing new car order etc sayin I changed my mind now wanting the x -cite

I went to Toyota in the Monday 1sep asked to c different person felt embRassed anyway he tried really hard to get me to stay wiv the white expression signed for 6pm Friday august 29 aygo he offered to give me the £250 white for free he also offered me approx £21 less payment per month over the whole 42 month contract so a reduction discount of approx £1100 ! I said I liked the black alloys on x cite he said I cud offer u a great deall on those he also sed in few months orange xcite b really common just a fad colour that wudnt hav good resale value but white always sells etc but inspite of this I still liked the orange x cite better and I knew if I went for the white when I saw the xcite wud feel disappointed and after all why not get what I want so I hav ordered the x cite orange it will not be ready till November I have been offered no discounts or freebies also my Toyota was a part exchange this valued at £2500 til I wud pick up the white original aygo approx 22 September now cos x cite not ready till mid November so approx 8 weeks later they have taken £350 off the value of my aygo so will b just £2150 is silly I do max25 miles a week yet they charging me £175 per month depreciation so that's approx £43.3 per week over just 8 week yet the original offer just 8! Weeks younger they charged depreciation at just £59.5 approx per month just £14.8 per week ! Lots of numbers I know but basically charging £350 for just 8 weeks at £43.75 per week I don't know what to doi felt very pressurized into takin the white expression and was offered a whopping £1100 discount and offer of good deal I. Black alloys but I'm annoyed that had I not changed my mind and gone back just 2 days later I wud hav paid the original £143ish per month and the £250 extra for the white and never been offered this over all at least £1100 discount just proves shows

Toyota can offer these big discounts and still make a great commission / profit sales persons wud not offer them if made them worse off I am now getting and ordered my orange xcite but no discount or freebies in fact my monthly payments becos of their massive reduction on my part exchange vehicle are actually more now £145-6 I believe there is a cooling off period when signing stuff or financial agreements I don't know wot to do I'm still today at least signed up to get the new car but I don't trust Toyota as much now as I know they quite capable of offer ring large discounts / extras freebies etc I find it hard in principle too that had I not changed mind wudve just paid the agreed amount wiv out the £1100 saving so am getting x cite but tbh wud like to go elsewhere my contract has personal contract purchase written at top it's never been explained wot that really means I know there the £4600 + balloon payment after 41 months but I hav always said I will never have that !

Also is hard for me to get credit even tho I have the money as explained so I went for it Iooking online I cud for eg get a much better more tech advanced and specs ford fiesta 5 door much cheaper Posher bigger more choices of colour and spec tech etc but may come up with the getting credit problem if I went for that new aygo very overpriced did u know the new toyotas now do not have the facility to simply pay a physical cd audio system now u use radio and stream music from a bluetooth mobile phone or an iPod !! There r few minor things on stereo like mirror display but have to have compatible mobile was surprised to learn an iPhone is not compatible I thought it was the most popular mobile in the works on Toyota need android !! The fiesta for eg as a sync system as extra that does normal hands free answering and calling Mobil but also when iPod or bluetooth music all the songs artists etc displayed in screen and u can actually use ur. Voice to say which songs albums etc to play and forward rewind etc also if someone texts u their name and their text will. Come on the screen and a voice will tell u what the text says and giv u the options to phone back sat nav etc on system and auto magic 999 will b called if airbags deployed etc but they have all this amazing technology and dab radio but they also hav a CD player !!!

Please I'm sorry all the long essay I hav written I really need some advice I've never had a big monthly commitment like this for so many years plse any advice v appreciated feel trapped to Toyota cos usually can't get credit and I feel a bit conned too by them basically penalizing me financially for getting what I want aand changing my mind tho I emailed them less than 48 hours later over a weekend I'm not great at confrontation but don't know what to do ??? unless a massive miracle happened and I cud get credit easy I'm afraid wud go with the fiesta ! If not am happy to get the x cite in nov but feel I'm paying too much cheers also worried new aygos mite hav leaks clutch probe etc

! Yet the previous offer of £2500 was just

Phew! That must be one of the longest post on this forum! Sorry, I got tired after reading half of that. If you summarize it down to few sentences, you would get better response.

Interesting story but if you order a car and change your mind then what do you expect. They have to meet there costs. Personally I found the new Toyota too expensive for what it is so didn't go for it. I also think your living well beyond your means as a four year loan then still having to find 4K at the end of it for a city car is madness. The fiesta would be a lot more money so that's an even worse option. If you can make the payments easily and are happy to get a new car after the four years and keep doing that then I would stick with the deal you got. If it's a struggle or you want to own it and not keep getting new cars I would cancel the deal and get a secondhand cheaper car that not going to lose loads in the first three years of it's life.

OK - I have tried to put the original post into more easily read paragraphs.

To deal with some of the questions:

1. Toyota do charge £250 extra for the white paintwork on both the Aygo and the Yaris - and this is approx half the cost of metallic paint.

2. As regards the part exchange price - the reduction in price is to reflect that by taking delivery of the new car in November rather than September, your part exchange will have depreciated more - ie by an extra £350.

3. You need to understand with PCP's, you are actually leasing the car. The choices you have at the end of the 42 month contract will be to have another car on PCP (but you may have to put some money towards the deposit for the new PCP), pay the balloon payment and own the car, or hand the car back.

4. It does sound as though you will have affordability issues with the finance agreement.

5. Do you really need the options you're choosing? You say you do around 25 miles per week - do you really need a built in sat nav, or would a portable, much cheaper sat nav from either Garmin or TomTom suffice??

I think you need to go back to the dealer (preferably the sales manager or dealer principal) and explain that you feel out of your depth, the order may contain options that you don't want or need, you may have difficulties with the finance, and you need to revisit the whole process and order.

Beforehand, sit down, go through the brochure and decide what features of each spec you will actually use (rather than what you would like), and pinpoint which spec best suits your needs (both in terms of features and price). Take someone with you who can help you make responsible decisions bearing in mind what you can afford. Also look at the finance options open to you - PCP, HP or, possibly personal loan (through a bank for example).

If you end up cancelling the order you will probably lose your deposit - but £150 loss is better than having the car re-possessed if you cannot afford the monthly payments on the new car.

As regards the Fiesta, will that be more affordable than the Aygo? It will certainly have a poorer warranty - Ford provides a 3 years/60,000 miles warranty with reduced cover after one year, whereas Toyota provides a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty.

The Ka is Ford's competitor to the Aygo - have you looked at that?

A cheaper car to consider is a Hyundai I10 - got useful features without the sky high prices, or Skoda Citigo.

I've got one of the last models of the first Aygo this year, got it for 3.5 years then I'll probably just give it back and either look at the Skoda or go with the newer latest model Aygo.

When I bought it I decided to go top spec but I gave myself a lot of time to decide and I looked in the brochure and on the build my car section on the website looking at the different options and specs. Buying a car is no quick decision to be made.

Price ranges:

Toyota Aygo - £8,595 to £12,395

Hyundai i10 - £8,595 to £11,425

Skoda Citigo - £8,210 to £11,045

Alternatively, if you are OK with the first generation Aygo, some Toyota dealers have 14 reg Aygos for sale as used models with over 4 years Toyota warranty left and some with under 1,000 miles. You can do a search on the Toyota website for used cars in and around your postcode area. Eg:

Or there is a second generation Xpression:
