Hi,

My trusty Glanza is now locked away for the winter. I have started to use my Aygo sport. It has a MMT transmission.

The clutch is slipping quite bad as it struggles to pick up speed. It has recently started to smell.

Can anyone recommend a garage familiar with MMT transmission to get the clutch replaced without paying dealer prices in the north west

toyota

,with our 09 plate i tried auto gearbox specialists and they couldn't do it for me, they could do the c1 and 107 but not the aygo they said toyota had put some coding in the ecu so they couldn't use their equipment so we traded in and bought a new one as toyota want about £800 and i couldn't justify spending that much on an 09 plate vehicle.

sorry mate its not what you want to hear.

I have a MMT Aygo too and the MMT initiator or coupler (the brain) or what ever it is called has been changed once while the car has been on warranty due to slippage and the fact that the gear got stuck in one position. The clutch has been fine. If it happened out of warranty, I would change the car. It is too expensive to repair.

I agree, probably worth trading in for another one. My 09 yaris had MMT troubles, would had cost £1300 to fit a new ECU

Easily done at home. Search eBay.co.uk for Toyota TIS. Newest version available now is 9.30.029.

When you get that, connect it to the car and enter mmt ecu. Go to utility, choose parts exchange. Press a couple of next's, then choose step 1 - next. Clutch actuator will whine very very muffled from engine bay for a few secs, then go quiet. When quiet, shut off ignition.

Change clutch, just as you would on any other car - just be VERY CAREFULL!!!! when tightening the springloaded plate on the clutch. All 6 screws should go in very evenly not to engage the clutch auto adjustment - if that happens the clutch is scrap. Dont worry, i've never done it once, but my mate has once so its fairly easy to avoid when using common sense.

Ignition on, reconnect toyota tis, enter parts exchange again. Choose step 3 and next. Choose ECU exchange. This will force ecu to relearn clutch and gearpositions. This step will quite possibly finish normally, but fail without notification. This usually take quite some tries. You know it failed when you start the car, and you put the gear lever in a gear, and the neutral "N" just blinks in the dash. Then do step 3 again. Keep trying until it works. Can take as long as half an hour.
