14 Inch Space Saver

Hi Guys

I am getting my iQ on the 21st of Feb, the one real concern I have is the lack of a spare wheel especially after having had 3 punctures in the last 2 years! I have been looking at some of the older posts on here and it looks like people who have a spare or space saver have to keep it in the main part of the car, is there enough room where the puncture kit goes to keep a space saver from an early Yaris which is 14 inch with a narrower 115/70 14 tyre?? It is not going to be easy for me to go and look at my new car before I get it but I would like to sort a space saver. If the 14 inch spacer saver will not fit I might as well get a 15 inch wheel with a 125/70 tyre!

Can anyone help me on this? I am coming from a Yaris diesel so hope I don't find the car too slow, it seemed OK on my test drive but that wasn't that far!

Thanks

Dave

Well I imagine it's a bit gutless compared to the Yaris D4D so you'll probably have to hold on to the revs it a bit longer before changing, but if it's anything like the Aygo it'll really launch from a standstill :D

I think it will take a while to change the way I drive, had a diesel for the last 6years so probably got a bit lazy having the turbo.

Hoping the iQ2 saves me some money?

I suspect like the replys above you will take time to adjust. I have recently replaced my Yaris Tsport with a Iq3 and am finding it difficult to adjust as the yaris went everywhere in top gear with even more lowdown pull than the D4D, but I am very much appreciating the reduced running costs. Have been told I should have concidered a '2' as they are less gear sensitive. Dont know if thats true. Re spare, there is someone on here advertising a really good full size spare for £50. I would go for it if it were the right size for mine; I assume there is room on the back seat. Hate driving with no spare. Has anyone tried and succeded to use the repair foam. I havnt, luckily a friend came out and took my puntured wheel to the nearest town for repair. Nightmare if your not a member of AA or RAC, Best of luck. Im sure you will enjoy it once it gets used to you. Cheers Colin

I have an iQ3 Colin but have a 15" iQ1 or 2 wheel as a spare.

The rolling diameter is the same and the width is the same so they fit and drive perfectly well with an odd tyre. I have used mine once so far when I picked up a nail.

I keep my wheel standing up in a bag behind the passengers seat. You can still slide the seat back to a comfortable position and it leaves the rear seats free so the seat backs can remain in the upright position and room for the shopping in there too. :)

Hi Colin this is probably the biggest car change I have made I keep wondering if I am doing the right thing? Perhaps I should have got a iQ3 but as I only do about 4K miles a year in the car I decided the 1L engine would save me more money, I will miss over taking anything though!

Looks like I will have to wait until I get the car to decide on a spare or space saver.

Hi Craig

Could you post some pictures showing how the wheel looks behind the seat?

Cheers

If interested I have a very good alloy wheel with good tyre and cover I'm trying to get rid of as daughter has now sold her IQ. Will put on eBay in a couple weeks time.

you need to go scrap yard to get a rover 15 inch, 135/80/15 i think ?? as the honda jazz fitment the same, as 14 will not fit to back as the rear brake caliper n disc are bigger than front on iq, believe me as i ve own a jazz 04 in past with winter tyres left in my back yard, i ll double check the space saver size, as got it last week..

Here we go, took some pictures this morning.

The wheel is in a plastic bag, not a flash carry bag but I may get one of them sometime to hide it a bit more. fitted in the centre of the wheel is a Dunlop tyre compressor. I'd rather try to re-inflate a tyre and do it every five miles or so than use the gunge in the wheel although I do carry a couple of those around if I get desperate.

First picture shows with the seats up, second picture has the seats folded down and you can see they don't go completely flat any more. Third picture shows the front seat and the extent of the seat sliding back, sorry about the muddy floor mats!

Also worth mentioning that I change my wheels in the summer for OZ Racing 17" ones so I also have to carry 4 of the original wheel nuts with me so if the spare is needed I can safely use it.

My mountain bike fits in the back too if you take the spare wheel out. :)

Thanks for that Craig, it shows things much clearer

Does the force between the front and rear seats stop the wheel moving or do you secure it in any other way?

I simply slide the front seat back and compress it slightly in place. It seems to stay there fine so long as no one slides the seat forward. :)

All this talk of tyres has prompted me to buy a black, material wheel bag to put my spare in to keep it tidy. Hope it fits. :)

Mine should arrive tomorrow, decided £20 was ok as the tyre will be on show, hopefully look a bit more professional??

Space saver should be with me middle of next week ABW
