Sluggish Engine Power

I have an 05 avensis 2.0 d4d. When I try to pull of from standing start there is no real power or if I'm I'm 5th gear driving at 2000 revs I have to drop down a gear to go quicker even on level roads. I have replaced the egr valve all be it a second hand one. I have cleaned the inlet manifold replaced fuel and air filter. When the bonnet is open I can hear the turbo like air going through it. I have put cleaners through the system and making no difference. Engine just feels very restricted. No black smoke when accelerating was some white smoke on start up for a few seconds but now seems ok. Any suggestions

have you checked all vacuum pipes & the two boost pipes for spits or wear and tear

the symptom you describe is the one I had when I left pipe off going to the MAP sensor 25760

Checked round the pipes no air leak. Noise doesn't get worse when the accelerator is pressed. I know in the turbo there is a turbine like thing could it be this vibrating and causing lack of power. There is no blue smoke while driving

The last time I experienced a symptoms described by the original poster, was when I drove my brothers 1999 Ford Galaxy TDi. I knew straight away that it was the MAF sensor and he had it changed on the next service. That was a VW engine.

Not sure if Toyota's set up behaves in a similar way, plus it may not show any fault codes unless the EML comes on. My thinking is that the fault MAP sensor is not giving the correct reading, so there is no boost when needed.

It would be worth a try changing it. I'm drawing a blank so will try it

Fuel filter should be changed every 2 years on diesels.
