Poor Mpg

Hi my mpg has got really bad after cleaning the air intake and throttle body.i average around 35-37mpg after clean.before was around 40-42mpg.its a 2.0 d4d.anything I can do to get it up higher . friends car is the same car and year and he's getting 58-60mpg!!! 😢

I would give it a good blast once car is upto temp in third gear up to 4000 revs then into 4th upto 4000 revs, make sure no one is directly behind as you will let off alot of black smoke.

Yeah mate gave it a good blast today not much black smoke mind you!!so that's good I hope.i done a mix of 2 stroke oil in the diesel and a bit of injector cleaner.hope it helps over the next few days.will keep you posted.thanks for replying.

UPDATE:put 300ml of 2 stroke oil in the tank and filled to the brim took it a good thrashing with revs up to 4500rpm (top up oil levels if doing this).before was 37mpg after 58mpg!!!that was a mix of country roads and the odd dual carriageway.so hope it climbs up more as this car has never been as high.👍

I have heard of putting 2 stroke oil, does it really? could it lead to any problems

Hi mate no not that I've heard of I have checked most forums all saying the same thing . apparently it helps the pump and cleans also the cylinders because of higher burn.and diesel is just a thinner oil after all.though it has to be mineral oil.
