Hybrid Reverse Beeper

is it possible to turn off the continuous reverse beeper on the 20415 face lift model.

it inter-fears with my hearing aid and makes it difficult to differentiate between the reverse beeping and parking sensors.

Note: The above only works in the US and not in Europe/UK on the 2009-10 models. However if you are in the UK, ask your local service technician nicely (pop in when they are nice and quiet) and they will change it to a single beep only (takes just a few minutes for them to do). Which is the way it should have been in the first place. Note however, some dealers will refuse point blank or tell you that it can't be done...Don't believe them.

This is a UK spec car.

That's why I quoted this text and I have hignlited, bolded and colorcoded the part that applies to the UK spec. You need to "push" the dealer harder or try a different one. In another thread on this forum, a guy meantioned the dealer told him it was impossible to change the number of blinks for changing lanes from 3 to 5... Turned out it is in fact possible, so either dealer is improfficient, or he doesn't want to deal with stuff like that as they can't charge you "arm and leg"

It can be done but there is a bug between 2015 face lift models and Techstream (The diag' machine used to talk to the car ) that hides the option to change the reverse beeper, Toyota are aware of this and arranging a fix to cure this as a work around in the meantime you need to connect to a pre face lift model navigate to the option to change the beeper then unplug from the pre face lift and connect to the face lift then change the setting.

Click on your user name, select 'My Profile'. On the top right hand of your profile page will be a button 'Edit my profile', click on that button, make the necessary changes and click on 'Save Changes' button towards bottom of page.

No such luck for me - I've tried two dealers now and mentioned this workaround. Both dealers insist the software would simply reset as soon as you unplug it. Really want to get this beep disabled! Can any smartphone apps with OBDII readers do it?

Email Toyota direct. I got a software upgrade for free (added bonus of new maps!). I am not sure if the Car needs a software upgrade (or Techstream) but mentioning your problems and the fact you are covered by the warranty should get you sorted. You then go to your manual and look at the customisations section and show the dealer what you want to change.

It annoys me when dealers are too lazy to check the resources they are provided, since my previous comments Toyota issued a Technical service bulletin to assist dealers with customers who have face lift 2015> Auris hybrid wanting their reverse beeps altering

Ref: BE-0057T-0617

Subject: Reverse buzzer setting change via external patch

Models: AURIS

Model codes: ZWE186

INTRODUCTION This Technical Service Bulletin is to inform you that in order to change the configuration setting of the reverse buzzer on MY16 Auris an additional designated application has to be use.

DESCRIPTION OF PHENOMENON Some dealers may experience and report under certain circumstances, the main body ECU logic for switching the configuration of the reverse buzzer from intermittent tone to single tone cannot be done using the regular method via Techstream. In consequence this bulletin will provide you an external application that will allow you to perform the modification of this setting.

PRODUCTION CHANGE Not applicable, field fix only.

REPAIR PROCEDURE Requirements:

a, Access to Internet from PC

b, A vehicle interface module (Mongoose or VIM) Note: Applicable vehicle has to be in IG ON in order for the setting modification to be successful.

Go back to your dealer give them the reference number and ask them they couldn't be bothered to look it up previously!

Thanks - this info has been really helpful. I mentioned it to one of the dealers (I found your other post after replying above) and he was a bit concerned that a bulletin was posted online, but given that he had no knowledge of it himself I’m very pleased it was, otherwise we’d all be in the dark! I only wish they all were available - who knows what else we’re missing! Actually, how did you get it?

I’ve now posted on one of the Toyota blogs and someone has escalated the issue and opened a case for me now. I’ve told them which three dealers haven’t been reading their bulitins and I don’t think TGB are very impressed about that! This is my first Toyota and so far I’ve been extremely impressed with the car, (annoying reverse beep aside!) very impressed by TGB, very impressed by the sales team at the dealer but not impressed at all by the service departments!!

The main issue I have with the service depts isn’t just that they have no knowledge of the bulletin, but their attitude when I pressed them on it being possible to disable the beep. The first one was basically pretty rude, the second was fine and interested in finding a solution (hint, check your bulletins) and the third implied that I’d have to cover the time/cost to update their software with the patch! I said I don’t mind paying for the end result but I’m not paying for them to keep their software updated! I’m hoping TGB will make this happen for me at no cost given the hassle it’s been.

Awesome - well many thanks for the info Devon Aygo - a shame all dealers don’t have someone like you on their teams!! Which dealer are you part of actually - my friend is in Exeter so if it means using someone who knows what they’re talking about I might just come down there for servicing!

Interesting to read owners views on the single bleep or multi bleeps when reverse engaged.  I used to drive the now wifes Auris and it had multi bleeps and I found it ok.  I now drive a Prius which has a single bleep and long to have a multi bleep.  Talking to the wife today about bleeps, she too prefers the multi bleeps.  We all different.
