Handbrake shoe linings

Hi,

Is there an inspection window through which the thickness of the friction linings can be examined, or does the calliper and disc/drum have to be removed?

Thanks for any info.

They don't wear much since they're only used when the car is stopped.  Try adjusting them: on the Avensis you can adjust them through the hole of a removed wheel nut without even taking the wheel off.  Obviously you need to have the wheel off the ground tho so you can set it properly.

You are lucky to find those pics as NR deleted many of his links when he left the forum.

The pics are good , though think I would be a little lighter with the copper grease.

Not mentioned is that you will probably have to take up some stretch on the handbrake cable, and easy adjuster just under the actual hand brake lever, though you have to remove the centre console, just 2 bolts and 2 screw and a bit of care.
