Hi Guys

My first post! woop woop :P

I brought my 07 plate Aygo Black 2nd hand from Inchcape everything was perfect with it apart from the fact it doesnt have air con. When I asked they sales exec if they had any with air con he said as it is a budget car not many have air con installed and as the car had everything else I wanted I went ahead and brought it.

Recently however and especially in this really hot weather we are having I am really missing having an air-conditioned car :( does anybody know if it is possible to have air con retro-fitted and if so how much it would roughly cost?

Thanks boys & girls,

Dan

It would be cheaper to swap the car.

Sorry but incorrect grammer really irks me ...

You did not 'brought' this car you 'bought' it. As for your question this very question was asked recently and the answer was the cost to retro-fit A/C would be prohibitively expensive. You could of course do a Forum Search ;)

Welcome aboard daniel2010. I would certainly miss my aircon - hope you manage to find a way round it!

Such a warm welcome.

Here's a little present for you, ihpj : ,,,,,,,, <- It's some commas, you seem to have run out.

Daniel - 'buy a new car' is the common forum response to such questions, but it really depends how mechanically minded you are, and how much work you're prepared to put in.

Sourcing the parts from a scrap yard, and fitting them yourself, wouldn't be impossible - just time consuming. I wouldn't imagine that the parts would be expensive, 2nd hand, either. It's a shame there isn't, yet, a Haynes Manual for the Aygo - as with this you'd probably be able to get a much better idea as to how much work would be involved.

Retro fitting would be a massive job and the car could have parts fitted at the factory that you could struggle to obtain. In addition whilst the car is still under warranty work like this would be detrimental to future claims as Mr T doesn't like people make small modifications, let alone something on this scale.

Selling the car is the simplest option in this scenario.

The Aygo Blue has air con as standard and there are plenty of them about - your salesperson doesn't know a lot about the cars he's selling!

I'd say there's no point retro-fitting. You'll never get back the cost of buying and fitting an air con unit so you'll end up losing money. You're better off selling the Black and buying either a Blue or a Black with the optional air con installed. There are plenty of air conditioned Aygos about. Your dealer is talking out of their buttocks!

Personally I would not go back to that dealership if that's their idea of 'service'. They've basically lied to you.

And ihpj, as much as you bringing to Dans attention about searching is a point fairly well made, a little politeness wouldn't go amiss to a new member. So what if the guy's grammar isn't perfect, his post made sense enough....

I hope one persons negative response won't stop you coming back Dan. Welcome!

True enough!

My entire post was made in good humour, although at the time of day(night) it was made perhaps lacked the necessary etiquette - I meant it a little tongue and cheek.

Thanks for all your comments all very appreciated!

I think it’s a bit much 2 sell the car as everything else is fine with it and all in good condition etc so seems silly to swap it and probably lose money just to get a button to keep me cool during the very few days we have sun!! I’ll just stick to the can of Magicool me thinks lol

As for ihpj all taken in good humour my friend - the joys of typing with an iPjone leads to many mistakes I’m afraid ;)

Thanks again

Dan

If you could obtain all the parts from a scrapped Aygo and was handy with the spanners you could retrofit the aricon yourself, but this would be a very time consuming job and difficult without the likes of a Hynes manual. And as has been mentioned already, you could affect your warranty. The only cheap air-con option is a fan system that fits to the top of a cooler box, where the cooler box is full of ice/ice blocks. This would work fine providing you can predict what days are going to be hot!

Not much help to you, Dan, but aircon as an option on a new Aygo costs 490 pounds.

The point of my reply is merely to strongly recommend it to any new buyer, if it's not

already fitted as standard, as on The Blue.

Aygo aircon is really powerful and quick to respond.

It's no just for summer either. The aircon is also excellent at stopping the car misting up in winter - a problem in the Aygo as it has a small interior. Our aircon is rarely switched off.

Sigh. Am I the only technophobe here?!

I want to get a scanguage in the car, but I want it in the niche above the CD player. Because I know sweet eff-all about cutting into card dashboards, is there a way a dealership might do that for me?

Merci!
