Machloop 1 Posted September 11, 2020 Share I am new to Toyota ownership with a 62 plate Rav4 dcat SR diesel 2.2 mk3. I have just done my first oil change as I refuse to pay the main dealer costs for basic maintenance ! Plus if I do it myself I know its been done right. However as an amateur mechanic it is important to realise your limitations. That said anyone who is fairly handy can do this job as long as they are extremely careful when lifting and jacking up this two tonne suv. I have always been a little nervous about driving up car ramps so I lift centrality with a trolley jack and support with four axcel stands, even placing two railway sleepers under to ! There is no such thing as too safe ! I read Anchormans first class extreamly comprehensive instructions above and its spot on "thanks A.M." I spent a lot of time researching oil as today's choice is mind blowing. The Toyota manual says 0w-30 prefered but 5w-30 is also on their graph. The only difference between them apart from 0w-30 being much more expensive, is that 0w-30 works to minus 29 Celsius and 5w-30 goes to around -23c. Well I live in central UK and its only been down to -20c once in my life time so 5w-30 will be fine for me. The only other critical spec it says for a diesel is it must be to acea:c2 or you may damage the DPF and or CAT. I decided to check my main dealer counter oil prices before shopping on line. Well they had a 40% deal on oil so I bought (6litre of Toyota genuine premium fuel economy 5w-30 api -an acea:c2). I also bought the (Toyota element kit oil part No 04152-yzza5) which also has two sump bolt washers included. I purchased via Amerzon a (Sealey 064.Tom oil filter cap wrench 14 flutes -Lexus/Toyota model No vs7112). This is absolutely essential if you work through the plastic skid pan cover access holes. You will need a 3/8 socket bar or 27mm 1/2 drive socket which I used to turn the wrench when on the the filter. So thanks to Anchormans brief its done with the dealer saved cash in my sky rocket !!!
