Cheap Warning Light Replacement.

Hi all - newbie to this excellent forum.

I was quoted around £30 + VAT by a local Toyota dealer to replace the warning light bulb for 'lights on' on the dashboard  .

Thought I'd look on the net for how to remove the instrument panel, but wasn't having any luck until I stumbled on the excellent http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25806 which showed me how to do it.

Basically you just pull the front of the 'globe' off (you can disconnect the wires connecting it to the dash by sqeezing the little tab on the side of the connector then pulling it off), then remove the 4 large philips head screws that hold in the display in place. The whole display and the block in front of it can now be eased out of the hole until you can get it all clear and out. Lots of wires etc. so be careful not to pull anything too hard.

Swivel the whole display round gently to the right until you can see the back, and then you can see all the bulb holders. They are black from the back and are a bayonet fitting. Just a small turn anti-clockwise and they're out.

Once you've replaced the blown bulb, reverse the procedure to reassemble.

Total job time around 10 mins.

I also found out how the temperature light changes from red when turning on the ignition to blue when the engine's cold and to red again if overheating (god forbid)!

It's done by having a red coated bulb and a blue coated bulb both near the thermometer symbol! (Little things please little minds).

Anyway, job done thanks to this forum - and the cost? £1.40 for a new bulb and holder from the local spares shop.

Didn't know there was a bulb to warn that your lights were still on. It just buzzes. I know a green symbol light comes on for front fogs and a red for rear.

I've just taken a photo of mine!

Unfortunately I can't figure how to link to it - sorry.

Maybe yours has blown too!

It should be on whenever sidelights or headlights are on.

when i put my side/dipped headlights on I have a little green symbol light up in the top left hand corner of the dash display - and also when I open the door she makes a buzzing/beeping noise to warn of lights on

I thought all Yarii had it?

I've taken a photo of mine - but we have a crappy camera which doesnt give good photo quality - its the top green light in the left hand corner of the display and has the shapes similar too <| |>

**photo looks really bad, will try and take a better one tonight**

maybe its the phase 2 yaris that have them?

cos both of my phase 1 yaris never had a warning light to say side lights or main lights are on. just full beam and a buzzer. oh and my t-sport has the fog light light on which is green

My phase 1 import from holland, built japan, uk spec has a light that comes on when the lights are on and then another for full beam.

Aha that will be because T-Sports have the analogue dials

On that subject of the T-Sport analogue dials... is there anyway you can convert the dials to the digital display in other Yaris's? Cos that's a really cool thing! (this is for when i can afford a T-Sport!)

Hmmm is it just me..but I know when my lights are on when the dark and winding road ahead of me is lit up. If it's all dark..then I know they arn't on :P

but on a serious nite..on my motor..no warning light for side lights...but there is for main beam...and naturally for full beam too.

Apologies for the crap photo quality but I hope you can kinda see the warning light that comes on when I have side and dipped lights on in my T3, it's the top green light on the left hand side of the display (took the pics when ignition was on hence all the warning lights)

The Display:

Didn't realise the phase 2 had a different digital display to the phase 1!

Now iv seen that... it's confirmed... i prefer the phase one in virtually every aspect! (I havn't experienced difference of engine)

I've got that light on my Phase one, all cars should have one i think.
