I'm interested in this Connects 2 thingy people have mentioned on this forum for connecting my iPod to my Yaris T-Sport (Phase 2). Do you get any cables with it? I'm also considering getting a Belkin TuneBase. Apparently this will be the cradle and it also plugs into lighter socket to charge iPod. It has a 3.5mm line-out. I presume a cable will go from here to the connects 2. What cable do I get for this?

Is there anything else I should know about the connects 2 that may annoy me? Once it's set up is that me ready to roll, non stop music?

If someone can answer my questions I would greatly appreciate it. Any pictures you have of your set up would be great too. Any help is cool.

ive looked into similar for my HD5, connects 2 seems to be good with OE units as they can then control the device direct, although ive never seen one for real so cant comment on its functions :)

Hi Manjaser

I'm after the same thing...not necessarily with ipod but with an mp3player anyway.

If you look thru earlier mail under "more audio input" and "FM transmitter" you will find info on connects 2. Connects 2 gets the majority vote of you want mp3 playback.

There seems to be a contradiction in the installation ideas ...some say remove or shift radio/cassete..

"Minidoughty" (see his mail) says you can reach in under dash to plug in.

There is no specific info from connects 2 web site nor from connects 2 distributor...'Halfords'.

If you unearth any more specific info I'll be interested. I have not made an attempt to buy the unit until I can be more clear about installation.

Cheers

Right folks, apologies for the delay, but my network is playing silly :censor:s today...

This is what the Connect 2 box looks like:-

Glovebox-Install-05.jpg

The picture is one I took for this thread here.

The box itself is a little shiny metal thing a bit smaller than a !Removed! packet. One side plugs intot he back of the Yaris HU, the other - in my case to a L/R Phono to L/R Phono cable of the sore easily bought in Marplins for a couple of quid. Were I taking a feed from an iPod and not my MD changer then I would use a lead with L/R Phono plugs on one end and a 3.5mm jack on the other.

Mine also takes a control feed to/from the contol unit and MD changer but, to be honest, I don't know how you would do this with an iPod or MP3 player as I've just been out and had a look at it and is a sort of square jack inside a large round end :S ...

My Connects 2 box is mounted behind the dashboard tot he right of the glovebox as I just don't need to touch it now its installed (I didn't install it, but I have had the dash' in bits a couple of times since...) and that's what I would do had I an iPod too - I would list theave the cable with the 3.5mm jack poking through underneath, sit the iPod in a cupholder and plug the cable into the headphone jack in the top.

Hope that's some sort of help...

Cheers,

Alan

That's the same connection as mine except mine is an auxialliary box only... no changer control as it isn't required!

Doddle to fit, then run the phono-3.5mm cable wherever you like (in my case next to the headunit and to a mount for my MP3 player) and bob's your uncle... geoffrey's your cousin and agnis is your aunt...

Thanks for the pictures Alan. It's a big help. I still have a few questions though. What does the cable that goes from the Connects 2 to the HU looks like? I looked underneath and saw the back of the HU but I am unsure where the connects 2 plugs into. Someone said it was on the right of the HU but it's not clear. If someone could shed light on this i'd be greatful.

I guess that you just simply remove the cable from the back of the headunit and stick it into the input of the connect 2, then with the cable supplied you plug one end into the output of the connect 2 and the other back into the head unit ........... kind of like splicing the cables but with a box of tricks inbetween and with connectors on the end!

It sounds a doddle to fit and the dash is easy to take apart or if you can, access the back of the HU by removing the glove box?

So down the the next question ....... Price!

I've read helfrauds sell these?

I can find them on the net for £60 inc VAT & P&P - Linky

So where's the cheapest?

Yeah Dave, that seems to be pretty much the case. You can't get to the back of the HU through the glovebox hole, you really need to dismantle the top part of the dash unfortunately..

I don't know about cost tbh - in case you don't know, this car was a replacement bought for me by the insurance company of a guy who decided to write-off my last one with his Civic. I insisted on the same spec as before but as the Toyota MD changer is now unavailable my Mr T of choice had Car Radio Services of Perth fit a better (and doubtless much cheaper) Sony unit via the Connects 2 instead...

hth,

Alan

I think yopu can get behind the HU just by lying in the passangewr footwell and looking up. It actually looks pretty easy to get to.

It's not.

The dash is very easy to take apart... even I can do it! You'll have it apart and all cables easily accessible in 10mins i promise! You do need to take it off to fit the adaptor, you can't see the cables properly without taking it out.

It honestly is very easy... just follow one of the guides if you're unsure.

Just to let you guys know -

I popped into Halfords today to see how much it would cost. It took me 5 minutes trying to explain what it was and what it does and after the third sales guy they realised that they sold it!

To my suprise they found it and it was £10 cheaper than anywhere else!

So I've got to go and pick it up in the next few days for £49.99  !

So if you want one get it from Halfords ..... as it's the cheapest place I can find!

Just one more question to the guys that have this - How does it work?

I understand the priciple of it but how do you listrn to it on your stereo?

What buttons if any do you have to press?

Cheers

You just press the "tape:cd" button (the middle one on the right) and it cycles round to it - as if its meant to be there!

hi guys,

i need someone who really knows their stuff especially with regards to the connects2 box, and connecting to a cd changer specidfically.

there is a great tutorial for the exact thing that i am looking to do stickied at the head of this forum, but when i tried to get the bits to do this (halfords), they told me that it wasn't compatible because i had a '99 yaris !?!?

can anyone tell me whther this is legitimate? seems a little unlikely that only 1999 ones would be different? but if so, does anyone know what i can use? i want to connect a cd changer to the back of the OEM head (tape) unit.

many thanks in advance guys!!

Hi and welcome!

Halfords are, as ever, talking out of their bottoms. You should be able to use almost any changer. As well as the posts above, look at this thread here---> CLICKY as noted in my second post in this thread.

If you have a good read through this thread then you will learn probably as much as we all know about the "connects 2" - hth...

Have fun!

Alan

As you can tell it has been done and the guide above is the Bee's Knees!

Just also want to say a quick thanks to the guys for answering all my questions  !

That guide is really good. I noticed though that the cable you disconnect from the HU is on the opposite side from mine. As I said I look underneath from the passanger footwell (my Yaris is a Phase 2) and could clearly see the rear end of the HU and the cable in question was on the passanger side. Accessible without dismantelling the dashboard. It seams odd the the Phase 1 and Phase 2 Yaris' are different in this way.

Just to finish off the thread......

I got my connect 2 box from Halfords yesterday and in the box you get everything needed including the AUX cable which I was expecting I was going to have to buy seperately.

After taking the dash off it took seconds to fit - I just simply removed the cable from the back of the HU and pluged it into the box, I then pluged the wire from the connect 2 box back into the head unit and that was it, I also traced the wire through to the side of the cubby hole so when it's not in use the wire can't be seen.

I tested it before putting the dash back on and it worked straight away without any problems and the sound quality was CD like.

If you have an MP3 player and looking to add it to you car, I would definatly recommend the connect 2 device!

10/10 for me  !
