first of all, i'm new here... hello!

just gone from a 1.8 clio to an imported celica 2.0 GT automatic (6th gen) and i'm lovin it!

i bought the car on sunday and guess what... today whilst it was parked at work, someone has kindly driven into the side of it and then done a runner, leavin a nice dent in the side of the car! - most of which i have managed to punch out

anyway, on to the problems...

1. my instrument panel (speedo, rev counter, gearbox, etc) does not light up at night so i have no idea how fast i am going! just put a new fuse in but its made no difference. anyone have any idea?

2. the speedo and mileage are in kilometers. how do i get them changed to MPH and miles?

bulbs may just have blown, wouldn't expect them all to go at once but it is a possibilty.

To get it changed to MPH you'll need a converter, they're easy to install and are typically about £25.

Once that's in just get the mileage corrected to what it would be in miles as it will start reading in miles once the converters in.

Oh, and Welcome!

put a mph dial in and leave it reading in km http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-Celica-MPH-Sp...1QQcmdZViewItem ......... whilst you have the clocks out , the lights work via a multi plug which may of come off. also check all the fuses it may be re routed to something else ????????

just an idea but you havent got a dimmer switch fitted have you , i know imports dont have them but its a possibility.

if its the stalk switch itself , i have 1 on the shelf if you need it.

i just ordered a converter from that eBay link above... thanks GT4.

is there a guide anywhere on how to change the dials?

no idea what a dimmer switch is!

when i turn the lights on, nothing illuminates on the gearstick or dashboard so it could be the stalk switch? no idea!

Chilton (Haynes america) do one for the 202.

You can also get a UK Haynes one which covers all FWD models from `86 to `99

Available from Haynes although you will probably get one cheaper if you try Amazon or eBay.

dimmer switch is a round knob you turn and it lowers the dash lights , turn it enough they go off altogether.

its located just up from your left leg on the dash if you have 1 .

taking the clocks out is fairly simple on the gen 6 , just look for screws that need to come out , tilt the steering down as far as it goes , to get the clocks out , unclip the plastic facia , pull off the needle remove the stock dial ,install the new dial ,put dial back and facia then refit to car.
