i have just recently bought a nice white, well looked after mr2 and to my dis-satisfaction it has devealoped a nasty gearbox crunch when changing up and/or down into 2nd gear

I'm not happy beacause the car drives and handles like a dream apart from this minor problem, i understand it is a common fault in the mk2 and i am curious as to wot other ppl have done about this as i'm not eager, as you may understand to change the gearbox. any help is much appreciated.

thanx

yep quite common across all toyota's of that age..... Worn gear syncro... you could try changing the gearbox oil andif that does not cure it then a replacement g/box would be best bet.. or like many do just live with it (if you can :) )

p.s welcome :)

Replace the box mate. You can get good second hand ones for a reasonable price.

Shame fitting it is a ball ache!

Yeah.. it is a bit of ball ache.

I wasn't so mechanically minded when mine got done. But didn't look like fun. lol.

Nowadays I'd just get stuck in tho.

Foz,

See 6th post down in the MR2 Technical How To thread.

Shame the pics are gone (I can't see them anyway) but description suggests that you may be able to resolve problem. No idea if it will help you, but might be worth looking into.
