Fitting Front Brake Pads

Recommended Posts

Been though the forum and cant find a how 2. I have been talking to a friend and he seems to think it is really easy, just 2 bolts on the inside of the calliper, pull it round and then swap the pads.

Is it that easy?

I have just noticed a slight groove on the outside of the disc from what looks like from the worn pad, is my disc foooooked now or can I still use it?

How old do you think your existing discs are?. If it is a 'lip' on the outer edge, it may be that the discs are now getting pretty thin and need replacing. A groove on a disc is not a major problem. My old Carina E had significant pitting over 2/3 of the front disc surface. Still braked perfectly. still passed MOTs.

There is a deal on eBay for discs and Mintex pads for £65 delivered:

At that price it swapping the discs as well would make sense.

Unless you drive very aggressively Mintex are more than adaquate for these cars.

The green/red stuff are not really designed for normal road use as they only reach optimum braking when very hot.
