Hello Guy

Have you had a tow bar fitted by any chance?

Nip round tomorrow and let me look.

Cheers

Me too! My fold flat seats don't work when I pull the lever in the boot on my new RAV4 XTR.

Anyone got any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?

Could it be that the lever got de-activated when my leather seats were retro fitted??? Well, it's the only theory I can come up with ...

In the first place if your vehicle has had any work done at the back like a tow bar or parking sensors there is a chance that somebody has either dislodged or disconnected the cable anchors and not put them back.

Secondly, when the seat is returned to the upright postion it does not always relatch properly. In this case go to the rear side door and use the recline lever to release the seat then allow it to come down more than half way. Push it back upright until it stops and then with pressure on it pull the levr and let it go back to the normal seating position. The go around the back and try pulling the lever. It is easy at first then becomes quite stiff at this point;

so pull it all the way back and put slight forward pressure on the seat back to release the seat.

Then it becomes a bigger job!

Push the opposite seat forward to expose the release cable and work the lever to make sure it is working under the seat;

If it is not moving it sounds like the cables are disconnected. follow the instructions here to remove the quarter panel;

............and I have highlighted the cable anchor here;

It just pushes down and clips into the release lever frame.

Agree with Anchorman. Although my RAV was initally a bit tempremental ( towbar fitted by Mr T where they only bugg**ed up rear fogs) rear seat drop now works perfectly

The RAV4.2 seat release is Sooooo much easier :eek: RAV4.3 seat release sounds very over-engineered :g:

Its got a remote lever that should allow you to drop the seats from the back. Its a good idea as long as it gets no foriegn interferance.

I have just found that if I pull the lever at each side VERY HARD they work, I wrongly assumed that the plastic lever made an electrical contact and was worried that I might break them!

Many thanks for the answers.

Yes, I thought I was going to break the lever on the one in the showroom, but once you pass that point in the photo it becomes easier again. Mike

When the newest shape RAV was released i found that on alot of the ones i PDI'd the rear seats didnt drop down when the handle was pulled.

The problem was either the cables werent clipped into the rear of the handles or they just werent attached to the seats!! lol

They seem to have gotten the hang of building them now though!

Mart.
