Reverse Camera

Hi,

Just received my reverse camera and I hope to attempt to fit it at the weekend.

First question, how do I remove the trim on the inside of the rear door? Car is 08 XT5 without rear wheel. I think its held on with those press clips but thought I'd double check first.

Second question, I thought I'd see if I could get the camera working before attacking my pride and joy.

What I did was get my sons games adaptor which is one of those variable output things, 240v mains input, switchable output varying from 3v to 12v. I plugged this into the camera supply lead, then connected the yellow (RCA ?) plug into my television but nothing happened. The(very) basic instruction I got with the camera state it needs a 12v feed.

Should this have worked? Am I being thick and missing something? Have I blown it up ???????

Thanks for any advice

Paul

I posted some months ago about this very topic and why my T180 did not have the camera fitted by the manufacturer, even though the wiring loom is already in place in the car. Seems silly to me, anyway official camera would cost me £500!!!!!!!!!!!

Which one did you get, I did not pursue any further but would be interested to know how you get on and how discreet it looks when done, some pics please when complete.

There is a step by step guide in the maintenance section by those who have done similar to what you are about to attempt

Hi Paul,

It sounds to me like what you did should have worked :g:

Different cameras may need different things. the way I went about this was to use the cars 12V supply and wire in a cigar lighter plug to the camera power lead (coupld of quid from Halfords) to check the operation of the camera - +12V to supply and gnd to ground. - you did provide a ground as well? without a ground connected to the power sources ground, there is no power as there is no power differential (I may be pointing out the obvious, but just in case)

I also found that the camera was only activated when the video signal was connected to the display.

Have to work unless you switched + and -. Note that some adapters have a switch for it or the connector can be reversed.

Also...maybe stupid question...but did you select the RCA input in the menu on your TV ?

Hi,

Got camera fitted yesterday.

Absolute doddle!

Fitted it in plastic trim above number plate, just below the rear Toyota symbol

Very discreet, hardly notice it unless you are looking for it.

I'll post a picture if someone can tell me how.

Cost me £16 off eBay, a tad cheaper than the Toyota one I'll bet !!!!!
