Hello Guys,

This is my first post so please give me some leway if ive posted this in the wrong place.

Hope everyones well.

I brought a Silver Convertable Roadster on the 28th of November, Red Cloth Interior, No Hardtop and was loving it!

But ive noticed that on the passengers seat there is a big wet patch and the seal in the middle of the window looks like its further appart than on the drivers side also it drips.

Im really unsure as to wat to do.

Do I go back to the place where I brought the car from and say (politely) FIX IT!! Or do i go to toyota and see if they can fix it?

As its getting near Christmas im pretty strapped for cash! :D

Is this a common problem with an easy fix?

I have had the biggest smile on my face driving this car but now its starting to be turned upside down!!!!

Hope you Guys willbe able to help as im not very mechanically minded!!!

Colin

Go Back to the people who sold you the car and ask them to fix it. Give them a date by which it would be acceptable for you to have the car fixed (something practical for them to get it fixed) 2 or 3 weeks should do it. Tell them if the car is not fixed after that date you will be rejecting it and they can have it back. All this should be done in writing.

Whilst this seems like a heavy handed approach it is really the only way to cover yourself. If you do not have anything in writing and they try to fix it and fail you will have no evidence to help you case if you do have to take things further.

If the car is still under Toyota warranty the fix should be no problem for the supplying garage. In any case your contract is with the garage who sold you the car and they should be the first port of call in trying to get things fixed.

Hi and welcome to the club Colin

You could check THIS from the Hints and Tips thread HERE to see if it is anything like your problem.

There can also be a problem if the hood hasn't been closed properly and the centre joint is not fitting correctly.

Was the car bought from a garage or private? as this will determine what sort of recourse you have regarding any faults.

Thanks for the quick replys guys (poet and i didn't know it)!

The car was brought from a garage, it has rained before and the water hasnt been leaking in,

But i did try and take the roof down for the first time the other day to see how It worked!lol So maybe I didnt put it back up properly? Me and a friend have put it up together so hopefully it stays dry.

The 2 clips that clip the roof in its up stage, can they be tightened so the roof goes up moe tightly?

Thanks

Colin

When we have our next down pour il let you know, so il prob be telling you 2morrow!

When you put the roof up did you put the windows down or open the doors?.. if not then you may have caused yourself a problem, as they should be down/open when putting the roof up.

As for adjusting the roof... open the latches, you should see a hexagonal shaped bar, behind this is a little plastic retaining clip, gently pull the retaining clip down and use a small spanner and carefully adjust the hexagonal bar to tighten it up... do this in small steps so you don't over tighten things causing damage.

Also check:

There's a strap across the hood (it's mainly hidden from view by the headlining) which runs just behind the roof joint in the middle of the side windows. If it is a little slack it can get snarled up in the joint mechanism. There's also a rivet which can compound the problem.
